AI Glasses Market Sees Explosive Growth, H1 Shipments Soar 263%

Research firm Counterpoint has released its H1 2026 AI glasses industry report. The global market is experiencing rapid growth, with screenless AI glasses becoming the mainstream and Meta dominating. Meanwhile, Chinese manufacturers have stood out in the AR & AI glasses segment. At the same time, the industry faces two real challenges: rising costs and privacy controversies.

In the smart wearables sector, AI glasses are entering their own breakout moment. According to H1 2026 industry statistics released by Counterpoint Research, global AI glasses shipments surged 263% year on year, showing extremely rapid growth momentum.

The market is clearly diverging internally. Screenless AI glasses are the absolute mainstay, accounting for 96% of total shipments, up 258% year on year and 22% sequentially. The growth of this category has been driven by Meta’s partnership with EssilorLuxottica to expand its product matrix and push into the Asia-Pacific market, combined with promotions across major global retail channels. By contrast, although AR & AI glasses have a smaller overall base, their growth is more explosive, with year-on-year growth reaching 449% and sequential growth of 18%, representing the industry’s future direction of evolution.

In terms of the competitive landscape, the screenless AI glasses market is highly concentrated. Since the launch of Ray-Ban Meta AI glasses in 2023, the market landscape has not changed significantly. In H1 2026, Meta continued to consolidate its leadership, capturing 94% of global screenless AI glasses shipments, with its own shipments up 260% year on year. The release of the second-generation Ray-Ban Meta AI glasses and Meta Glasses, together with Asia-Pacific expansion and channel promotions, jointly drove up its sales. By contrast, other players—even though Huawei and Alibaba have both launched their own AI glasses products—leave the remaining market relatively fragmented.

Interestingly, in the AR & AI glasses subsegment, the upper hand has shifted to Chinese manufacturers. Domestic companies such as Rokid, Alibaba, and INMO are advancing commercialization faster. 45% of shipments in this segment come from China, while North America accounts for 41%. Analysts say that at this stage the market is more driven by product supply. China has already built a complete, mature industrial chain covering microdisplays, optical waveguides, hardware manufacturing, and audio, and domestic manufacturers tend to quickly launch products and iterate. Overseas giants such as Meta and Apple tend to be more conservative, waiting for the technology to mature before scaling up.

However, the industry is not all smooth sailing. Rising component prices pushing up hardware costs and public concerns about camera privacy leaks are two immediate obstacles. The research firm believes these factors will not interrupt the long-term upward curve. Future growth will be taken up by agentic AI glasses, and product forms will become more diverse. Camera-free audio glasses and AI glasses focused on environmental perception rather than photo and video capture will become new development directions.
